The Solana Highlands Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is an integral part of the school. All parents and teachers are encouraged to join and participate in PTA programs and activities which are designed to enrich our students’ educational and community experiences. We work together, creating opportunities to help every child reach their potential.
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in general has several key goals and responsibilities aimed at supporting students, teachers, and the school community. Here are the main functions, goals, and jobs of a PTA:
Main Goals:
- Enhance Student Learning: Support academic achievement and enrichment programs that directly benefit students.
- Promote Family Engagement: Encourage active participation of families in the educational process and school activities.
- Advocate for Students: Represent the interests of students and families at the local, state, and national levels.
- Foster School-Community Relationships: Strengthen the bond between the school and the broader community.
General Functions and Jobs:
Supporting Education:
- Fundraising: Organize fundraising activities to support school programs, events, and resources such as classroom supplies, technology, extracurricular activities, and field trips.
- Programs and Events: Plan and execute educational programs, workshops, family nights, and cultural events to enrich the school experience.
- Grants and Scholarships: Provide grants for teachers and scholarships for students to support educational opportunities and innovation.
Enhancing Communication:
- Newsletters and Bulletins: Publish newsletters and bulletins to keep families informed about school events, PTA activities, and educational resources.
- Meetings: Hold regular meetings to discuss school issues, plan activities, and gather feedback from parents and teachers.
Advocacy and Representation:
- Advocacy: Advocate for policies and legislation that support public education, student welfare, and family engagement at various government levels.
- Representation: Represent the school community at district meetings, school board meetings, and community forums.
